In DER KLUMPEN, five dancers and a musician are in a landscape with no end and no beginning. Piling, nesting, clumping, clustering, and rooting, they are drawn into a state of becoming. Both thing and human, the clump is the emergence of the individual from the crowd, the delight of disorientation, and the challenge of collaboration. It is a pile of parts, a ‘worlding’ of relation, and a metaphor for collective action. Meanwhile… this organization of bodies is a real time situation of struggle, of interaction, and of literally finding one’s feet.
Hicks&Bühler have been working since 2015 to establish themselves as choreographers in the Frankfurt freelance scene. Their work seeks to combine philosophical inquiry and strong physicality. Unique in their approach to the qualitative dynamics of movement, Hicks&Buhler use choreography as a way to shape physical intensities of the body — shapes and forms arise out of the haptic experience of improvisation and always in relation. Interested in multidisciplinary collaborations, each of their work also involves explorations into sound or set design. Their inaugural work, Reaching Towards… premiered in Frankfurt in April 2017.
